January Updates

Just got back from the Oakland Tennis Center Grand Opening . It was an exciting event and a momentous occasion. Mark Gardiner, you have done very well. Bravo! ....Today, as we walked up we see that the whole complex is impressive. Then, we're greeted by friendly volunteers and Mark, himself. The NC Men's and Women's teams were hitting as was the NHS high school team. Adults from the community were also able to hit on the clay courts. Meanwhile, Mike Keim and Mark Keiser were grilling hamburgers and hot dogs. A raffle was held with proceeds going to the Brad Armfield Youth Scholarship Fund. For a dollar you had a chance to win a Wilson Steam racquet. Representatives from our Board were (including me and Dan) Melody Jepson, Annette and Ralph Patterson, Wilson Smith and, of course, Mark Gardiner. The mayor of Newberry, Foster Senn, and the Director of Newberry Parks and Rec, Scott Sawyer, were there to make you feel at home....The CLNTA will hold its Mac Harrison tournament and youth camp there. By Combo Season, we hope to be playing adult teams from Newberry! ...Be sure to go and check out this jewel just down the road. (oaklandtenniscenter.com)

The PC Men's tennis team has been recognized as the Big South's preseason favorite by the League's coaches. It is the first time that PC has been picked as a preseason favorite in any sport since its move to Division 1. (Info from The Clinton Chronicle )
